How Likely Would it Be to Own A Bathtub and How Frequent Was a Good Hair Wash?

"Bathrooms" in the early 1900's were not like bathrooms today. In Fact, only 14 percent of the homes had a bathtub. Modern bathrooms were typically a luxury in more affluent urban and suburban areas. Rural areas did not have the access to public water. In the country, baths were often drawn with hand pumps and heated with water boiled on stoves or even with bath stones heated in fires. Washbasins that could be carried to pumps were still the most common way to bathe in a home throughout the decade.

Consequently, a good hair washing was a luxury that most only enjoyed once a month on average. Shops and public baths would advertise for hot baths to those who didn't have access to the luxuries of a hot bath at home.
